While I pride myself on being pretty on top of things in the bookish world, that’s really just wishful thinking. There are so many books out there that my friends, family, and online reader friends have loved. And yet I have yet to read them.
It’s not because I don’t want to. It’s just that there are so many good books out there (and on my bookshelves) that I just haven’t had time to get to them all yet.
I know, I know. I sound like a broken record at this point.
But this Summer things are going to change.
I’ve decided to challenge myself to 8 books that I have at home that I haven’t read yet. These books must meet the following criteria.
I own it (Or can check it out from Kindle Unlimited)
It’s reasonably popular (or much talked about)
It’s a book that I think about often, but have yet to read.
Seems simple, right? Well, it turns out that there are quite a lot of books on my shelves that meet these guidelines. So I’ve decided to narrow it down to 8. That seems like a reasonable number because I also have review copies that I need to stay on top of for Netgalley.
So here’s the list:
8 Books I Need to Read to Catch Up with the Reading World
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
I purchased this book at Walmart when it was on sale without knowing what it was about (Please don’t shame me… I actually do this a lot). When I found out that the story featured a relationship and possible domestic abuse, I put it on the shelf and decided I would keep it for another time.
I think that’s why I stopped reading Colleen Hoover for a while. I don’t love how she combines like, severe trauma and extremely passionate romance into the same stories. It feels weird to me. Somebody had to say it.
But there is a movie version of It Ends With Us coming out and it’s starring Blake Lively, so I want to read the book before the movie comes out.
The Idea Of You by Robinne Lee
I’ve been thinking about this book so much because a movie version was just released starring Anne Hathaway. All I really know about it is that a middle aged woman falls in love with a young musician, and I think the hero is loosely based off Harry Styles?
Crave by Tracey Wolff
This is the first book in the Crave series which I checked out from Kindle Unlimited quite some time ago. I’m not sure if it's really my speed because I don’t have much interest in Young Adult books anymore, but it’s giving Twilight vibes, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I loved that series back in the day.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
I have not read anything by Ali Hazelwood yet, which seems crazy because after The Love Hypothesis she has released many romances. And I know a lot of people including my sister in law really enjoy her books.
This one sounds very cute. The main character is a PhD Candidate and her love interest is a hotshot professor. I love the idea of two academics falling in love. Something tells me that in the process for falling for each other they might drive each other crazy along the way.
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
I watched this movie with my friend Emily while we were at the beach a couple of years ago, and it was so cute! I purchased the eBook right away because I knew it was a book series and I wanted to dive into this world even further.
But things got in the way. So this Summer I’d like to read the first book in this series and maybe rewatch the movie as well! :)
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
You know how after a movie or a show comes out, the book publishers always release a new version of the book with updated covers? That’s what happened with me and Firefly Lane. Netfix released the show and then immediately after Wal Mart started selling covers with Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. So I was like, why not? I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while now.
So with that being said, yes. I have this book on my shelves and it has yet to be read. It sounds like it follows two best friends from childhood to adulthood and I enjoy reading that kind of story.
Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
A lot of my thriller loving friends enjoy Riley Sager. I’ve only read one of his books so far and I enjoyed it, so I’d like to read Home Before Dark this summer. I have a copy on my shelf that I picked up from Book of the Month a couple of years ago, so it’s about time I checked this one out.
Hopefully it’s not too scary! It’s about a woman who inherits a supposedly haunted house that she and her parents all ran from many years ago. Definitely an interesting premise. (If you’ve read it, let me know in the comments how spooky it is! I’d love to know if this is one I can read at night, or if I should stick to the daytime! Lol)
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
This is the highly anticipated sequel to Fourth Wing, which I read last year. I purchased the hardcover version of Fourth Wing because I wanted my books to match on my bookshelf. Haha.
But anyway, I took a little break from this series after finishing Fourth Wing and this Summer is a great time to forget ahead with the series. I have to be prepared for when the next book eventually comes out.
Do you have any books that you are excited to dive into this Summer? Let us know in the comments.
I hope this Friday newsletter finds you well and that you have exciting plans for the upcoming weekend.

I love this mission! I picked up It Ends With Us without knowing the subject matter and probably wouldn’t have read it had I known. Still, I’m glad I read it?
Excited to hear what you think of The Idea of You! I enjoyed it when I read it in 2020 and I’m wondering if I’d have a different perspective after seeing the movie (def liked the book better, but Anne was great)! Happy reading!
